Smile

Generally, P is a very happy child. She has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh and make others laugh. That is, if she knows you.

In the presence of strangers, P becomes silent and withdrawn. F and I often think of her as a turtle trying to crawl back into her shell. She has no shell, so she clings to me and buries her head in my shoulder. It could take any time between 5 minutes and 5 days before P will open up and let the new person into her world of joy and laughter.

The photographers taking pictures at P’s preschool last week were not lucky enough to meet the joyful Penelope. According to her teachers, the photographers tried every trick in the book and pulled out every stuffed animal from their bag. Not even Elmo could make P smile that day. You can't make me smile.

  1. Have you tried making loud flatulent noises and turning your eyelids inside out right before the camera goes off? I’ve never actually gotten a picture of Tristan with his mouth shut, ( except for those in which he slumbers), but I imagine that would work.Your eyes won’t get stuck that way……..that’s a myth that Spencer has misproven. Hope Vegas was fun.Hug.

  2. Ting2 is like her Mommy. When her Mommy was about her age, Mommy was also shy, if there are strangers she clings to Nana Joy and hides on my back. Ting2 will get over it just like you did. Ay2 is like Kokoy. We like your pictures Ting2. Youre so cute even though you dont smile. Send us copies, Ok? We love you …Nana Joy and Lolo

  3. I often tell the stories of Penelope’s “shunning” action – if you address her before she is ready to be your friend, she turns her head and looks away, gazing at the floor a few feet away……and stands perfectly still – like a mannequin!
I have had to leave the room for fear of bursting out laughing!
Clearly in control of her interactions and comfort zone!!!
She gets it from both sides! Darling.

  4. What a little sweetheart! She’s so cute! When did she start pre-school? Does she love it?!

  5. Nothin’ wrong with making others earn her respect! Love those poses, girlfriend! (That is, if you’ll allow me to be your girlfriend.)
