It’s Official. Oregon 2012.

Fred’s da bomb. Not yet even into his final Chief Year in his general surgery residency, and he’s been offered 3 jobs for when he finishes in June of 2012. The guy has been working so hard for the past 4.5 years…dealing with grueling hours, major sleep deprivation and 3 high maintenance girls to come home to every night, or every other night at times. So he more than deserves what he calls the closest thing to his dream job as a general surgeon. And that dream job is with Samaritan Albany Surgical Associates in Albany, Oregon. Yup, we are heading back to the Pacific Northwest.

We are all super excited. Albany is less than 2 hours south of Portland, the city F and I called home for close to 10 years. We are more than thrilled to be just 2 hours from our favorite restaurant, Pok Pok in SE Portland. My cousin and his wife live in Portland, along with F’s aunt and brother and many other great friends from our Reed College days. Albany is also just 15 minutes from Corvallis, where F’s “second mother” and her husband live along with his sister Malia. These are three people we all love and adore. F also has an aunt and cousin in the area, and his parents and their farm are less than a day’s drive away.

Aside from family, Corvallis/Albany is a wonderful area for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and the socially/politically active. In the past, we’ve spent time in Corvallis and we love the vibe. Plus, the mid-Willamette Valley is home to many wineries, pinots included. Pinot AND family? What more do I need?

As for my parents in Wisconsin, they understand how wonderful this opportunity is for Fred and they are happy for us and are more than willing to start visiting the Pacific Northwest again. Right, Mom and Dad??? We’ll just get them really good rain jackets!

Ah, yes, the rain. What is that again? It rains in Oregon. A lot. It’ll be an adjustment, but we’ve lived in the NW climate before and we’ll adjust. And I still have 15 months to soak up as much Vitamin D as I can here in SB!

Congratulations, Fred!

Pacifica Northwest climate brings Winter Daphne -- a must-have in our future garden.
