DMBBT

On Cinco de Mayo, we lost a very special person in our family — my husband’s grandmother – the amazing Doris Mae Bos Bahnson Thomsen, aka Great Grandma Doris.

Yesterday the family held a reception for Doris at her house in Rancho Palos Verdes. Fred’s mom and aunt put out cards for guests to write down their favorite memories of Doris.

Doris lived to be 90  years young, and up until several months ago, she was driving herself around LA, making beautiful jewelry, tending to her orchids, avocados, and citrus trees, volunteering at the Botanical Gardens, and kicking ass at bridge. I remember visiting her one day this past winter. She was feeling great after having gone through some radiation treatments. She was sitting in her armchair while her great grand daughters Cecilia Joy and Penelope Mae giggled, squealed and ran laps around her house. Doris smiled, looked around her house at Fred, his Aunt Tish, myself and the girls and said, “This is what life is all about.”

Doris lived a remarkable life, and over the past 5 years, she made a huge impression on Cecilia and Penelope. At the reception last night, Cecilia wrote down her favorite memories of Grandma Doris.

She was a very good great grandma to me. I love to go to the Botanic Gardens to put the jewelry in the store. Her jewelry was so pretty. I loved to watch her make the jewelry. I wished I could help her make it. She lived for so long. She lived to be 90.
